Grocery Chain Brings Union Jobs to Connecticut With First Store

DeCicco & Sons, the New York-based gourmet grocery chain, opened its first Connecticut location in Greenwich last month. The store’s approximately 90 employees are represented by UFCW Local 371 and work under a recently negotiated three-year agreement.

Union strong: Meat Department workers are happy with the recently negotiated agreement.

Contract highlights include:

  • Starting rates with built-in wage increases for both full- and part-time employees
  • Six sick days and six paid holidays for all employees
  • Up to four weeks of paid vacation
  • Guaranteed minimum scheduled hours
  • Time and a half for all hours worked on Sundays
  • Union healthcare benefits
  • Employer-contributed retirement savings plans

Francisco, a meat manager, said he and his co-workers are excited to have strong union representation. “We are thrilled to be working at the new DeCicco & Sons store, and that we are union members of UFCW Local 371!”

The new grocery store opened in the same location that previously housed Stop & Shop, which was also represented by the local, but closed more than two years ago.

Workers at other DeCicco & Sons stores in the tri-state area are represented by UFCW as well, including Local 338 RWDSU/UFCW, which recently negotiated a three-year contract.

UFCW Local 371 President Brian Truini credits his colleagues at RWDSU with helping bring these new DeCicco & Sons members into the union family.

“The leadership at Local 338 in New York paved the way for our success in Connecticut. We look forward to continued partnership with them as we deliver equality and fairness in the workplace to these new members,” he said.
