CT Essential Worker Pay Application Portal Now Open

Local 371 along with the CT AFL-CIO and all of its affiliated unions fought hard this year to pass a law that would provide premium pay to our members who serve as essential workers. We are so pleased to announce that the Democratic controlled legislature passed the bill, and Governor Lamont signed it, and the application portal is now open. Benefits will be paid out in early 2023, but applicants will be notified whether they qualify within sixty days after they apply. The money is available on a first come, first served basis, and depending on your hours worked. you may qualify for up to $1000.00. In order to qualify, you must have worked as an essential worker from 3/10/20 through 5/7/22. Click here to see if you qualify and to fill out an application.

Local 371 Brian A. Petronella Memorial Fundraiser Raises $40,000 for Local Charities

Thank you to our members, our sponsors, and our golfers for participating in this year’s golf tournament. We are please to announce we raised $40,000 this year. Our sunny day of golf and camaraderie led us to be able to donate $10,000 to the Make A Wish Foundation, and the rest will be donated to charities local to Connecticut, Vermont, and Western Massachusetts, and will be used to help members in need.

UFCW is honored to once again partner with the National Association of Letter Carriers for the 30th annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive to take place on Saturday, May 14, 2022. 

Nationally, an estimated 45 million Americans experience food insecurity every year. Stamp Out Hunger – the largest single-day food drive in the United States- has been a way for our union to assist those facing hunger in our country and to make a difference in our communities.

Stop and Shop Bargaining Update

February 17, 2022

This week’s two-day negotiations between your bargaining team, made up of your local union leadership and fellow Stop & Shop members, and the Company wrapped today. Over the past two days, we exchanged multiple proposals on general wage increases. 

We are intent on delivering you a contract that guarantees meaningful wage increases, robust health benefits, and strong protections. While we are making progress, we will continue to meet with the Company next week on the issue of general wage increases. We made it clear to the Company that your hard work and sacrifices during these unprecedented times must be met with a contract that reflects them. 

We will meet again next week, on February 22nd, where we will continue to negotiate for the strong contact you deserve. We will continue to keep you updated after each bargaining session.

February 3rd Stop and Shop Bargaining Update


This week’s two-day negotiations between your bargaining team, made up of your local union leadership and fellow Stop & Shop members, and the Company wrapped today. Over the past two days, we have exchanged proposals on general wage increases, classified rates, differential pay, and health and welfare. We are reaching important agreements on certain substantive economic and Health and Welfare items, and continue to have productive bargaining sessions where movement is made. 
The subcommittee assigned to address non-economics also met yesterday and reached a tentative agreement on non-economic provisions. We secured vital protections to ensure your safety and wellbeing on the job. 
We also met with a representative from The Segal Group, which serves as an advisor for your New England Health and Welfare fund, to discuss the state of the fund. You were able to secure this fund during our last contract negotiations through your hard work and dedication, and we are happy to report the fund is on strong financial footing and will continue to deliver the high-quality, reliable, healthcare you deserve. 
We remain as committed as ever to delivering you a contract that rewards your hard work with strong wages, benefits, and protections. We will meet next week, on February 10th and 11th, where the company will present their counter to our most recent general wage increase proposal.
